3.1 Math
It is important for students to work on the math level appropriate for them to be successful. Students are placed in their math class based on their Continuous Achievement level. At the end of every semester, all students will be assessed to make sure they are in the appropriate class. If a student meets all of the criteria to advance to a higher level of math, their math class will change at the beginning of the following semester. It is more valuable for children to have a deep understanding of material and love for learning than it is for them to rush through as many semesters of math as possible.
3.1 Third Grade, First Semester (Third Grade Units 1-3)
Units of Study
Unit 1 - Numbers and Operations in Base Ten
Unit 2 - The Relationship between Multiplication and Division
Unit 3 - Patterns in Addition and Multiplication
Textbooks
Because we spend our time with higher order thinking and problem solving activities, we will limit our use of textbooks and workbooks in this class. Students are always welcome to sign these resources out to use at home if necessary.

The Division of Curriculum and Instruction supports research-based instructional practices and strategies for differentiated, innovative, and effective teaching and learning based on the State-adopted standards. Georgia K-12 teachers in collaboration with post-secondary educators, business and industry representatives, parents, and educational agencies and organizations work to develop challenging and relevant standards. Georgia standards are reviewed for revision on a regular cycle to stay current with an ever-changing, fast-paced, and technological global society. Georgia standards for all content areas, along with sample instructional resources, are available on GeorgiaStandards.Org.

Math Daily 3 is providing tasks and activities that engage students in the mathematics they are expected to learn. This workshop model includes:
1. Math with writing -students are expected to explain their thinking, create word problems, solve word problems, and teach to other students. (See a word about math writing below) 2. Math with a partner -students are typically given a project to complete on the unit as well as some mathematical games. 3. Math with self - a time for students to further their knowledge and skills through a variety of educational resources. |
